A good customer of mine years ago back in GA was a big-time Colt collector, and when he travelled on business he'd spend his time in gun stores and pawn shops rather than bars or strip clubs. You could always tell when he'd be about to get back to town, because we'd have one or two "To: Joe Blow, c/o ABC Gun Shop" packages waiting for him. If you get tight with a particular local gun shop, you can often get them to let you have a couple of wet-ink FFL’s for when you’re on the road.
