I shoot and love my Springfield "GI". It's been a great shooter right out of the box and has eaten anything I've tossed at it - FMJ, JHP, cast lead... My only beef is the GI notch sights, which I knew about when I bought it and haven't bothered to deal with replacing yet.

The thing I thought I wouldn't like, so rejected teh Taurus option, was all the sights were 2 dot. But if you have no problem with that, and Tam recommends...

Dude, get with me via the email or telephonic commo thingy and we will set up range time so you can try out both the Pro and my '66 Colt. If I can get my Shootin' Buddy to come along, maybe he'll bring some of his Les Baer Thunder Ranch Specials. I'll even let you shoot my half-finished Sistema project.

It's all part of my duties as an acolyte of JMB (pbuh).

Personally, I'd want to see the gun stripped down to its parts so I could judge for myself whether or not Taurus did something weird. Some gunsmiths who know their s-word have told prospective Taurus customers that tuning was not possible because there are design flaws that preclude modification. This applied to revolvers, *not autos*. The only Taurus auto I ever had was quite nice. Every Taurus revolver I've ever handled--except one--was rubbish. I do understand that I have tested a statistically insignificant portion of Taurus revolvers out there, so Taurus fans please don't jump down my throat.

I don't blame you for wanting to save $300. It's too bad that DWs are so rare, because a used gun would be an option. Not only would you save money, but you wouldn't have to break in a tight gun yourself. Some day I'll have that Razorback...

Anyway, happy (1911) hunting.

I haven't heard a damn thing bad about the PT1911, but I just thought I'd chime in about the S&W1911 series as well. I'm VERY pleased with mine, and they don't run too much more than the PT1911.
