All previous cycles had an electorate that could be trusted to be real and learn from past mistakes. The current electorate does not have either attribute.

I tend to disagree on that; just from looking backwards at history. Both of my parents voted for Carter back in the day, today they're staunch conservatives. Our young electorate tends to be very plugged in simply because the internet has changed the face of modern American politics. While I'm not optimistic, I do feel that there is a chance that we can recover from this assuming that the next 4 years are not walking on sunshine.

I knew you'd be good to your word about how you'd take the election results. You didn't disappoint me there. I'd like to add that I was a bit sad that McCain didn't win. He has what it takes. This wasn't a loss because McCain is as bad as most sore losing Republicans are making him out to be today (they are taking their frustrations out unfairly on the candidate).

"It’s because of George Bush, and the continued abandonment of actual conservative policies over the last 8 years. George Bush was not a popular president at the time of this election, and Obama was able to successfully turn the election into a referendum on George Bush. Combine that with an economic crisis, and people will vote for the guy that seems to be the most different from the guy they don’t like."

And that's largely the fault of his campaign people, too. They did very little to help McCain distance himself from the present Administration. He had the tools, the skills and the presence. What he didn't have was support, and he took a lot of bad advice that led him down that road of posing as a Maverick instead of a decent Conservative.

Once we cede power to this crew we are screwed. Well at least you are, maybe Texas can secede after all.
