Don’t say I never do nice things for you.
That’s the new lower for the Magpul branded S&W M&P15. Yes, it has the Magpul rollmark right there on the lower receiver, and no I don’t get all the hubbub. Of course, I’ll freely confess that I honestly don’t “get” rifles, but that’s a post for later on.

Ooo… It says Magpul.
For us rifle guys, this is like the Glock 1911 fakes … except this is real.
Isn’t the market flooded already? Another AR part. Even if it is from Magpul, what’s the point?
You know, that was my thought at about lunch time on my first day at SHOT. There are so many AR-15 manufacturers now that quality of build (which is pretty high among most of them) and price point are the only distinguishers.
Why pay $1K+ for an LWRC when I can build one just as good from quality parts that don’t add up to $1K?
If you’ve seen one AR, you’ve pretty much seen them all.
isnt this jsut a subbed out gun with a magpul rollmark? I would like a glock 1911, and a glock carbine, and a glock ar15 for that matter, as glock is a manufacturing leader in quality, and quality control.
Is this just a swmp15 with magpul accessories and a magpul rollmark?
Oh and i only have one glock, a glock 19, i am not a glock fan boy, i have a 9mm mp, cz75 p01, sig p228.
This is just an M&P 15 with MOE furniture. Smith has had these out for a while now, but the Magpul branded lower is new for this year.
I like the billet-machined look, don’t really care about the Magpul tho.
thats nice, but we want to see te left side of the lower thanks. Everyone has a picture of the right side.
As for the hubbub, magpul helped design the lower and it appears to be a stronger forged version of the coveted billet magpul lower which is so rare, so obviously people want it.
I have seen the video on youtube. It is on the S&W channel. It is a rifle between S&W and Magpul. The lower is all one peace designed by Magpul. The upper ins S&W. It come with all the Magpul bells and wisils. It comes with the videos too. I wish I could get one.
When I first heard about this I was legitimately excited, not in a fanboy sort of way.
I had assumed that Magpul had done with AR lowers what they had done with sights, rails, mags, etc.: produce a very high quality, low cost lower receiver out of premium polymer. Like the ones Calvary Arms used to make but better. Imagine a quality, light weight, complete lower receiver for… $100-$150. It would be a great option for people looking to do a first time AR build.
You could easily come away with an AR less than $500; a Magpul lower for $125 + DPMS or Del-Ton complete upper for $350. I think in today’s economic climate, something like that would sell like gangbusters.
What don’t get about rifles? Pistols are almost always a defensive weapon, whereas a rifle can be used offensively or defensively. Say for targets beyond 25 yrds…. Your “I honestly don’t “get” rifles” dripped with elitist sarcasm, not cool for someone who is supposed to be a “gun nut”…. Maybe you should ask Shelley, she can skool you.
well if the above comment is correct about it being a subbed out MP then i don’t get the brewhaha is about.
Sure a billet lower looks sorta cool, but it doesnt functionally give me anything, i can go buy a blemish BCM,SPIKES, or a palmetto, or mega lower for well under $100, actually as low as 60.
The sub $100 lowers dont functionally give up anything, they dont fail, they dont crack, gail, or shear. This hey look at me stuff, this is the equivalent of ricer tuner stuff in the car world.
This is like putting a carbon fiber hood, and dash kit on a naturally aspirated honda civic, and spending two grand to do so, and saying “its stronger”, or lighter. Well thats great you spend 10 % of your cars original cost on a hood, but that just makes you a jackazz, unless you have a 400k rally car you dont need a carbon fiber hood.
Unless you managed to somehow ruin 2 or 3 lowers, you dont need a billet lower, and magpul rolmark adds nothing for me.
And i like and use magpul stuff, i even have magpul ctr on my ak. And i didt it knowing i would get grief for doing so. I like magpul that much, but they make nice stuff for fair price.
This is not quite magpul jumping the shark, but if they want to sub out their name and market a lower, why not just sub out mega machine to make some sub $100 lowers for them? Compare and contrast this for looks, to the criticized looks of the new magpul 870 stock and gripe. I dont car much for looks, more function, and i personally didnt see it as even being ugly, somewhat unconventinal loos, but clearly they have some industrial design majors on the pay roll, it doesnt look like the turds at highpoint designed it, or some kid in 8th grade study hall.
caleb please elaborate how you do not get long guns.
I’m a fan of Magpul but I’m not a fanboy. I really do like many of their products, especially their PMAGs which I am truely a convert on. They do have products I don’t get or have much interest in but doesn’t every manufacturer? The lower looks very nice and I’m sure it’s very functional as it is stylish. However I’ve never had many issues with AR lowers and they aren’t exactly high stress parts so I’m not sure there is a need beyond the image factor here. After all, there are videos on the Internet where someone constructed a lower out of scrap plywood to prove a point about polymer lowers and it functioned unsurprisingly. In my opInion, lowers are not where your money needs to be spent (excluding triggers/action parts of course).
